The 2023/24 season was a huge success for Powerhouse Rowing Club.
We attended 18 Regattas. That's a lot of boat loading sessions and spreadsheets! Not to mention celebrations at the Club bar afterwards. It was a lot of fun, and no regattas were cancelled due to weather etc. In fact, we enjoyed great rowing conditions at most regattas. We saw perfect conditions at Nagambie Masters State Champs under sunshine and on flat water for the entire 2 days. That must be a first..!!
Our club entered a total of 244 events throughout the season in all classes of boats, achieving
62 First places, 76 Seconds and 47 Thirds. You did PHRC proud.
- The most popular event entered was Coxed Quads - 55 events.
- The second most popular was a draw between single sculls and doubles - 52 events each.
- The next most popular was Coxed Fours - 34.
- Followed by Eights - 28, Pairs - 11, Coxless Quads at 9 and Coxless fours at 3.
Lack of entries in the Coxless events are due to Grade Regattas only having coxed events.
Ross Mursell entered the most number of races, totaling 54 events, followed by Emily Harridge with 48 events. Chris Schlicht - 45 events and Alex Wilcox at 43. Trust you all are having well deserved relaxing weekends at the moment. Thank you, Alex for clocking up some miles driving the trailer to most of the regattas.
Our coxes were extremely busy steering down the various courses 117 times. Thank you to Helen McManamny and Deb Spring, who coxed the bulk of the races. Thanks also to others who stepped in, Helen Menhennitt, Chris Lefebvfre, Chris Schlicht, Emily Harridge and Meredith Williams.
More fun was had on Slack during the 2023/24 season. According to Slack Data we sent 10,736 messages in Channels and Direct Messages. Great communication. :)
Our season was celebrated at our Annual Awards Night.
Helen McManamny is our entire Social Committee! She did a fabulous job planning the whole thing from selecting the caterers, choosing the food, organising tickets, hiring kitchen staff, organising volunteers and making sure everything was perfect. Which it was. She was given a very limited decorating budget to transform our hall. Her creative decorating talent was evident. It was a terrific night enjoyed by all.
The full list of all our award winners is shown below. Congratulations to all the recipients.
Thank you all for a fantastic season. Bring on 2024/25!
