Established in 2004 by Peter Antonie and John Whiting, The Melbourne Head was born out of a desire to create an event of both enjoyment and significance, on a par with the annual Head of the Charles.

With the aim of offering rowers and scullers of all ages and standards the chance to participate in a head race in a range of boat types, the event has since grown to become the Head Race Championship of Australia and the largest regatta of its type, maximising the chance for people to enjoy competition on the beautiful Yarra as it approaches 
the city.
